When to book a Newborn Session

You are pregnant and want to book a lifestyle newborn session!! Now what?? I recommend waiting until your 2nd trimester to book a session. This will give us a better idea about your baby’s due date. You will also be through the 1st trimester and hopefully feeling more like yourself and can focus on preparing for baby. You also have the option to add a petite maternity session when you book a newborn session, if you’d like. I usually do these sessions between 28-35 weeks pregnant.

When do we schedule the actual session?

That is really up to you. We will set up a tentative date, usually your due date, and then we schedule the actual session after your little one makes her appearance. You get to decide how soon after the baby is born for when you want to schedule the session. I have done newborn sessions at 7 days old all the way to 6 weeks old. Some of my families want to wait and get adjusted to life as a family of 3, 4, or even 6. Since I don’t do any formal posing, I do not need babies to be days old to really embrace this newborn phase. I don’t require your baby to be super sleepy or bend into unnatural positions. In fact, I absolutely love when babies are awake during our session. I love capturing those deep newborn stares.

My baby is already here, is it too late to book?

Absolutely not!!! As I said earlier, I have done newborn sessions at 6 weeks old. But really, we can do them up until 3 months old. I want to capture those firsts with you and your new baby. But I also don’t want to cause any stress for you, baby, or the rest of your family.

When a new baby is born, that’s not the only new thing that happens. Everyone’s role shifts. You become a parent for the first time or become a parent of multiple kids. Your other littles take on a new role as a big sibling. Everyone and everything changes. It can be some of the highest highs but also some of the lowest lows. I’ve been there. I have four little ones. I’ve successfully breastfed for 12+ months, I’ve exclusively pumped, I’ve used formula. I’ve had very different nursing experiences between my kids. I’ve been more in love than I ever thought possible. I’ve suffered from postpartum depression and anxiety. Everyone’s experience is unique, and each new baby has their own story. I want to capture that and your own family dynamics. I want to capture all those tiny details and emotions so you will have them for a lifetime.
